Today (10/17/08) I picked up this pretty Marvella bracelet, which got me to wondering if Marvella had any patents. This particular bracelet has the copyright mark, so I didn't expect to find a patent for this one (and didn't)

Looking up some basic history on Marvella at the RCJ website, I found that Marvella was created by the Weinreich Bros. Using that info, I did a patent search for "Marvella" and/or "Weinreich".
I found a grand total of three patents that were a possibility. (of course there may be more, but these were all that I found so far). Two by Sol E Weinreich and one by Richard E Weinreich.

Patent #122619 Sol E Weinreich - August 1940

Patent # 153409 - Sol E. Weinreich - Jan 1949

Patent # 163724 - Richard E Weinreich - June 1950
But none of the patents mentioned the company at all! Not Marvella or Weinreich Bros. So, I set off to see if I could find the first names of the Weinreich brothers, to try to confirm that the patents I found were actually related to THE Weinreich brothers of the Marvella Co. Although the fact that Marvella was known for their (faux) pearl designs and two of the patents are designs for pearls, it seemed like a good possibility
The Trademark listings for Marvella list Sol E. Weinreich and Ray C Weinreich as the partners in Weinreich Brothers. So, bingo! At least Sol is correct!!! But then who was Richard Weinreich? Was he another brother, not listed on the trademark info? Someone else not related to the company? hmmm. I did notice that one of the Sol patents and the Richard patent appear to have the same patent attorney - enhancing the idea that perhaps there was a relationship between Sol and Richard.
Luckily I was able to find an old news article from 1979 that reported the wedding of Ann Bernard Sicher to Richard E. Weinreich described as retired as chairman of Marvella Inc. I found another article of his death at age 90 in 2005.
So, it appears that yes, Sol, Ray and Richard were all involved in the company. I can't verify at this point that they were all brothers, but it seems like a fair guess!
