Finding the ad shown below in a copy of the Jeweler's Circular from 1902 prompted some researching of this company. Here's what I've found so far (Mar 09)....

There is a small webpage for the company today that says this:
"Importers of Fine Cultured Pearls - brand: "Orienta" ....Originally founded in 1896 specializing in genuine pearl jewelry, Leys, Christie & Co, Inc......Our product line features the Start-Her Necklace program which allows our customers the flexibility of completing a necklace at their convenience. ...In addition, we provide a range of assembled cultured pearl jewelry featuring earrings, necklaces, bracelets, pendants, rings, brooches and tie tacks."
I found 3 trademarks:
Start-Her-Necklace - first used 1951, expired
Orienta - first used 1917 - dead (status as of 2006)
trademark first used - 1899 (although note the difference from the one shown in the ad above) - shown as status cancelled as of 2007
--------------
Interestingly they are shown at the same New York address in 1956 trademark records as the one shown in the 1902 ad. Later correspondence shows another address.
--------------
