Hi all! Welcome to the Jewelry Patent Project! I recently discovered the fun of collecting costume jewelry and have quickly become an avid "joolie". As I started to learn about costume jewelry I found that for me, a lot of the fun is in the research. Trying to identify and date the pieces I find as I wander the local thrift shops. I quickly found myself at the US patent site, and became completely fascinated by all the info that the old patents contain. I also found some terrific websites where people have done lots of work to bring us places where we can look at patents, and you'll find links to those sites, here on the JPP site.
So, what is the jewelry patent project? I quickly realized that while it's great to be able to peruse patents, it is pretty hard to search through them unless you already know the designer or manufacturer. So, my ultimate goal is to develop a database that is searchable by jewelry feature, etc. That's going to take a while for sure!!! There are a gazillion patents, and I have to download each one, one at a time. Then read the text and put it into the database. So, in the meantime, I will put the raw dump of images here, so that at least it is one more place that you can view and browse patents. For this site, the patents are organized by the official patent category. For more info, please see the FAQs on the Patent Browser page.
I hope you find this site fun and helpful! I love to hear suggestions and always love to know about other sites that have patent info.
Sincerely,
Juli
